ANIMALS IN DANGER

Panda bear

by Lucía F.G. 5B

Female panda bears live isolated from males in the dense forests of bamboo from China. They are fertile only two or three days a year and they must emit chemical signals which, in turn, have to pass through the dense vegetation to attract males. Both sexes reach sexual maturity when they are between five and seven years old. Their sense of smell is widely used during the breeding season. Males can compete for the right to mating. As for their behavior, panda bears are solitary animals. They increase activity during the sunset and often delimit their territory with urine, odor and marks of claws; they avoid clashes between them.
